Genesis of a Space Saga – Jael Wye

When I first envisioned a Solar system of the future populated by characters from fairy tales, I had no idea what I was getting into. I always intended to write a series of fairy tale retellings set in the same universe, but it wasn’t until I was deep into the middle of my first book that I realized what I had on my hands—a saga of interconnected characters and plotlines weaving together into a single overarching narrative. My Once Upon A Red World series had been born.

Even though I resigned myself to telling a huge, complex story over several volumes, I was still determined to write every novel as though it was a stand-alone book. My latest installment in the series, Ladder to the Red Star, retells the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as a science fiction romance. As such, it follows Jacques, the hero and Devi, the heroine, as they struggle to overcome the obstacles on their path to true love—obstacles like a powerful megalomaniac and an apocalyptic cult.

But though Ladder to the Red Star has its own resolution, it is still a part of the larger narrative of the series. As they fight for their own happiness, Jacques and Devi uncover plots that span Mars, Earth, and the Asteroid Belt. They set events in motion that will have profound effect on all the people of the Solar system.

How, then, will these plots and events play out? Who will step up to save the Sol from the evil and corruption that threatens it? Well, that’s a story for another day.

There are many series that have a story arc that spans many volumes, from Harry Potter to The X-Files. Which is your favorite?

About Ladder to the Red Star

Once upon a ruined Earth 300 years in the future…

Jacques Tallinn, biotech smuggler and thief, is after the cure for a brain disorder he’s suffered since childhood–a disorder inflicted by a powerful tyrant. To get the cure, Jacques will need to climb the space elevator to the new Zenith space station hovering above Earth and go undercover in the lab where it’s produced.

Martian head tech Devi Chandra is immediately intrigued by her sexy new lab assistant. Though she insists on keeping things professional, she finds herself charmed by Jacques. Until he betrays her trust, kidnapping her and spiriting her off to Earth.

All Jacques needed to do was steal the biotech and get back home. But when things go wrong, he can’t bring himself to leave Devi behind. Now she’s injured and a simple caper has become an intergalactic cause, endangering his life and the lives of millions of others. But the hardest part? Winning back Devi’s trust.
