“So, Meredith, has Charlie read your feet yet?”
Emma glanced at Charlie and smirked. “Your feet. Has he read them?”
“Uh, no.” Forget surreal. She’d just entered The Twilight Zone.
From Tempting Meredith by Samantha Ann King
About three years ago, I learned my brother is a foot reader. As I listened to his stories of close encounters of the foot-reading kind, I knew that someday his gift would find its way into one of my books. Tempting Meredith is that book. A foot reader seemed the perfect foil for Meredith’s scientific mind. Want to know more about the art of foot reading? Read on!
Samantha Ann King/SAK: Are there any other foot readers in your family?
Steven, Samantha’s brother and Foot Reader Extraordinaire/FRE: My family has a lot of interesting skills, but none are foot readers. My grandpa could cure warts if you gave him a dime. I’ve never had a wart, so that’s unconfirmed on my part, but my siblings swear it’s true.
SAK: When did you know that you were different from other people—that not everyone could read feet?
FRE: I’d never heard of foot reading before dating a fortune teller named Vadoma. As a joke, I decided to read her feet. Her expression became perplexed as I told her about parts of her life she’d never revealed to me. She offered to help me hone my skill.
SAK: It must be difficult living with this unique gift. How do you cope?
FRE: As long as the soles of their feet aren’t exposed, I can’t see into people’s souls.
SAK: What’s the difference between a foot reader and a mind reader or palm reader?
FRE: The joys, trials, and tribulations are formed from the weight of the events of people’s lives then are passed down to the lines of the feet. You can tell a little about what’s to come, but only six months to a year in the future.
SAK: How do your subjects prepare?
FRE: I have them plop down in front of me and show me their feet—preferably freshly washed. This last has no bearing on the reading, just my personal preference.
SAK: Have you considered your own reality TV show?
FRE: I’m usually asked this after a reading. If the right opportunity came along, I’d certainly consider it. I’d never do it for profit. There’re too many charlatans out there making money off people’s misery. I’ve never charged for a reading and never will.
SAK: Do you have any other special skills?
FRE: I’m a pretty good bartender and a so-so skydiver. I managed to cram four years of college into seven, and I was told at an early age I could talk fish out of the water. I’m not so sure that’s a skill…or a compliment either come to think of it.
SAK: Now it’s your turn. Do you have any questions for my brother the foot reader?
Astrophysicist Meredith Burke’s professional life is perfect. Her personal life is another story. Years ago, a ménage with the man she loved and his roommate left her with a broken heart and a secret. She hasn’t trusted anyone since, but when she meets rugged hunting guide Charlie Connor she figures she doesn’t need to. He’s got “one-night stand” written all over him.
After one night with Meredith, Charlie needs more. She’s intoxicating, and shockingly willing to give him total control of her body. When she agrees to spend an entire week with him at the lodge where he works, it’s more than he’d hoped for. But Blaine Bridges, Charlie’s best friend and boss, has his own secrets.
Blaine hasn’t seen Meredith since that disastrous encounter eight years ago, but he still has feelings for her. Now she’s dating his best friend, the man he wants for himself. When Meredith invites him to join in their naughty play, his pleasure is all-consuming. But will the secrets they all hold close destroy a beautiful beginning or bring these three lovers closer than they ever imagined?
