In my debut trilogy, Vengeful Love, a high-flying London lawyer pitches to work for a devastatingly handsome and filthy rich CEO. Like the main protagonist, Scarlett Heath, I am a lawyer, which was helpful experience. Unlike Scarlett, I can honestly say I have never pitched to a client like Mr. Sexy Bazillionaire CEO, Gregory Ryans. So, I had to do a little research to understand what it would be like to fraternise with a hot billionaire. Of course, I could have used Google, but, frankly, where would be the fun in that?
Here are a few snippets of “book research” I carried out for the first book in the Vengeful Love trilogy.
I started easy. One of the first events Gregory and Scarlett attend together is a black tie dinner at Claridges, London. So, I roped in a friend and we went to the opulent Claridge’s for a couple of Charlie Chaplins by the grand piano. I approve, Mr. Ryans!
As Scarlett is a corporate lawyer at a top firm, she doesn’t just take her clients to any old truck stop for schmoozing. Naturally, I had to take afternoon tea at one of Britain’s oldest and most lavish hotels, the Savoy…to better understand my leading lady.
Of course, when Scarlett gets to know Gregory a little *ahem* better. She finds herself gazing out across London through the floor to ceiling windows of Gregory’s 64th floor pad in the Shard, London’s tallest building. Unsurprisingly, there were a few ladies willing to spend an evening with me enjoying great food and champagne in the Shard…for the greater good of the books and all! This is the view from the Shard and the backdrop to a few romantic moments in Vengeful Love.
Ah, yes. The surprise getaway (read dirty weekend!). Gregory whisks Scarlett away to an English vineyard. I was more than happy to sample some English sparkling wines in Surrey. I’d tell you more about it but…I don’t remember!
And last, one of my personal favourites…playing dirty in a supercar! Gregory has a small obsession with ludicrously expensive cars. Whilst I’d love to own one, it turns out they’re a tad on the pricey side. Instead, my husband was a willing accomplice in a supercar blast day.
I may not want to check my bank balance again EVER but I can certainly recommend researching the life of a billionaire. In the words of Mr. Ryans, “Everything high and fast, baby!”
He’s a devastatingly handsome, filthy-rich CEO. She’s a high-flying London lawyer. All it takes is one boardroom pitch. One hostile takeover.
Vengeful Love is darkly suspenseful, sinfully sexy white-collar romance at its very best.
I’ve always walked the straight and narrow—following the rules, never straying from my chosen path.
Until Mr. Sexy Bazillionaire CEO Gregory Ryans walked into my life. It was only supposed to be business, but one brush of his wicked lips against my skin changed everything.
I can’t deny what this man inspires in me. I’ll do anything he asks…even help destroy the enemies from his past.
But he’s hiding more than he’s telling me.
When our love leads to tragedy, there’s no going back. Gregory’s past is trying to kill our future.
They say love can bring a person to their knees.
I’ve just proven that vengeful love is the strongest force of all.
Laura is a lawyer by day, working for a global business law firm. By night, she puts pen to paper, writing about handsome billionaires and sassy alpha females.
She wrote Vengeful Love whilst working as a lawyer in London, inspired by the blinding lights and corporate world.
Laura’s other passions include dining out (the higher the better!), dry martinis and romance (fictional and real).
She completely buys into Valentine’s Day.
