A Geek’s Guide to Surviving a Wedding

Lexi Carmichael, the geeky heroine in my humorous mystery series, gets stuck as the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding in my latest release, NO REGRETS (out January 8). Can she survive the ceremony with screwing things up too much? What about the toast and the first dance? What’s a geek girl to do?

Just in case you or someone you care about feels out of place at (or in) weddings, I’m offering a handy-dandy survival guide on how to manage all those tricky social situations.

Helpful Wedding Survival Tips to Give the Geek in Your Life

  1. Bring a flask small enough to attach to a garter under your dress or be kept in a hidden pocket in your jacket. Trust me, you’ll need it.
  2. Open bar? Duh! By all that is holy, take advantage of that.
  3. Need to keep track of how much you are drinking? There is an app for that. Get it.
  4. Do not use your salad fork on the annoying person sitting next to you who keeps asking you why you are single. Use the full-sized fork.
  5. If you must wear heels, get those special protectors for your shoes that will prevent you from sinking into the soft earth or slipping on a slick dance floor, which will inevitably happen if you are on it.
  6. Use deodorant. A lot of it. Because when you are nervous you sweat. When you sweat, you stink.
  7. Be smart when meeting people. When they start the conversation, “Hey, [your name], it’s great to see you again!” the appropriate response is, “Oh, I totally forgot your name.” Their feelings may be hurt when they tell you, but your answer is, “No, silly! I knew your first name, it was your last name I was drawing a blank on.” They will chuckle, you will smile at them for their mistake and now you know both of their names. Boom.
  8. If you are forced to dance, make sure you are clear on #1, #2, and #3. Just saying!

So, did I forget something? Enlighten me! :)

NO REGRETS is the tenth book in the Lexi Carmichael series. Here is a bit about it in Lexi’s own words:

When I agreed to stand by my best friend, Basia, on her big day, I had no idea what I was in for. Bouquets and unflattering evening wear I can handle. But between disgruntled dates, a beach venue and suspicious packages, what else can go wrong? Oh, right—my parents don’t know I’ve moved in with Slash. Oops?

Thankfully, I’ve got everything semi under control, at least as far as Basia and Xavier know. They can leave for their honeymoon happy, knowing Elvis, Slash and I will keep things safe at home.

Meanwhile, Elvis and Xavier’s boss at ComQuest has asked X-Corp—well, me—to take a quick trip to retrieve a sensitive company package from the British Virgin Islands. No hacking involved. Just show up, accept the package and bring it home safely. A cushy assignment and a safe one. Right?

Wrong. Things start to unravel the minute I set foot on the boat to the islands. Before I know it, I’m up to my neck in thugs, sand and trouble. I’m going to have to work fast to stop the bad guys before the sun sets for good on this unexpected beach vacation…
