5 Books Featuring Strong Female Leads

by JN Welsh, author of In Tune

Seeing women excel in their careers and businesses on the page is empowering, especially when you can learn from their stories, because secretly we’re all trying to figure out how to do it, right?

Within the pages of my books, readers can find dynamic, often humorous, mostly career-driven, multicultural women of color looking for love. Women, who when you peel back the layers they surprise you, as well as their lava-hot, sexy love interests, over and over again. Similar to some of my favorite reads. Here are five of my favorites that I always mention!

Breathing His Air by Debra Kayn

Tori Baldwin knows how to dish out love advice on her food truck as easily as she busts balls. It’s tough to go toe-to-toe with a really alpha leader of a biker community, yet she does and all while taking care of others and navigating through some intense emotional and dangerous situations. During the heart-pumping moments, I couldn’t put the book down.

Chasing Moonlight by Raven St. Pierre

Quinn Dixon loves hard and sasses even harder. She’s a heroine with entrepreneurial dreams and is thoughtful and protective of her family, friends and Jesse Peterson. Even during the oppressive Jim Crow era, Quinn strives for a better life and experiences an unconventional and unexpected love against seemingly insurmountable odds.

Calling It by Jen Doyle

Librarian Dorie Donelli is so vibrant that at every turn I cheered for her and also for yummy Nathan Hawkins. She is a character with so many interesting layers, and every time she reveals one, you love her even more. She is aware of her strengths, weakness and flaws. She’s professional and the characters’ funny banter had me turning the page. True confession: I fan-girled Jen Doyle pretty hard after reading her book. She knows this!

Cynful, Halle Shifters, Book 2 by Dana Marie Belle

Badass Cynthia “Cyn” Reyes is a mighty tattoo business owner in this paranormal gem. She is a hard-working woman who is managing her shop and a past that is darkening her present opportunity for love with sexy-popsicle Julian DuCharme, a rare spirit bear. Cyn is a giving, parental figure to the women she manages, and protective of those she cares about, even if she is a bit rough around the edges.

Compose by Lily Kay

I did not plan the C book tetralogy here but Compose highlights Korean adoptee Louise Tanner. “Louie” is challenged with overcoming the traumatic events of her past and letting love in, both for herself and for Gavin. Louie doesn’t think she’s strong but she is such a pillar for her fellow college friends. She is smart and even though she’s falling in love, she does it on her own terms. Oh, and did I mention that Gavin is super squeal-worthy?

Don’t miss In Tune:

In Tune by JN WelshA tour manager determined to revitalize her career.

The client she can’t stop thinking about.

Workplace romance hits the road in this enemies-to-lovers romance from JN Welsh.

Luke Anderson needs a manager—fast. His last one quit, leaving his tour and his future in jeopardy. Now instead of focusing on his career, he’s forced to concentrate on damage control. Powerhouse manager Leona Sable is the full package—smart and talented, not to mention sexy as hell—but her past makes her impossible to trust.

When opportunity knocks in the form of talented EDM DJ Luke “The Musical Prophet” Anderson, Leona is ready to answer. But salvation doesn’t come cheap. Luke won’t sign until Leona agrees to his outrageous terms—including a no-sex-while-on-tour clause.

Dictating what she does in her personal life crosses a line. But Leona’s never been one to back down from a challenge.

One thing is for sure: if she has to suffer, so will he.

Let the tour begin…
